So I started the build maybe a month or 2 ago. Here are the pics. Im already driving the car and I will have updated pics and videos up soon.

I have this posted on some other sites just thought I would share here.

UPDATES....

So I'm slowing tieing up loose ends with the swap and I accomplished this today.

Everything works. The only thing Im unsure about is the Speedo. As soon I I get drive shafts Ill see if it works.

I have the CL-S service manual, just haven't looked into it much, I hate wiring!!! But I think it would be worth doing, but I didn't know if you had to wire in the multiplexer.

Sorry, I never remembered asking him for any info. Could have been a friend on my account. But I got most of my info for the swap from a friend at a local Acura Dealership. I do remember asking him (I think it was don) about removing the imobilizer. But I got that info form multiple sources. I double triple checked all my info before i made my harness.

Sorry if I upset anyone though.
Thanks Don :)

I had to cut the ek mounts out. I used eg subframe, steering rack, and control arms. Then I welded in an eg drivers side mount. Fits like a glove. Shafts are near perfect.

Thank you sir :)

aint it something after you had to go out of your way to modify the driver side mount that now hasport came out with a bracket and sells a j into an ek mount kit

by the way what's the part number on the driver side mount need it for my shell

the ek kit just come with that converter cup thingy. all the pieces are the same as the eg dc kit. They sell that part seperate and we had thought about using it but we thought this would look nicer and be a lil stronger.

Ok let me try to answer a few questions. I am not an engineer or a mechanic or anything like that. I am an electriction who just tried to do something a lil different.

Q: Why?

A: Why not lol

I came across the charger (m90) for a great price. I had been talking with my fab guy (weirtech) about doing something different and he thought this was doable. My buddies @ GM also said that the charger is pretty well bullet proof and makes decent power on GM cars.

Q: specs?

A:

The charger --- is an M90 found on GTP's, Bonneville's, Regal's, etc. The charger is running of the inner crankpully where the power steering would go. Thats why the belt is so thin (4 rib).

Plenum (adapter) --- The adapter is a 2 piece plenum. You can see it in the pics above. I used the honda gasket on the bottom, a paper gasket inbetween the adapters with gasket maker, and a GM gasket for the charger.

Tensioner --- The tensioner is from an mdx. The lower pully I swapped out for one with grooves so it would grab better. The only issue with this right now is that when tightening the belt, it comes reallly close to the engine mount. We are gonna move it back a little so we can put some more tension on the belt. Its only a 4 rib so the more tension the better lol.

Intake --- I had the throttle body moved to below the hood with a 3 inch pipe. I wanted it under the hood cause I do drive this quite a bit and get stuck in the rain sometimes. I wanted the sensors to be kept somewhat dry hahaha.

Q: How much boost/power?

A: It makes 3-4 psi. I had figured using a boost calculator that it would be around 5psi with the pully sizes I am using. If i had used the alternator side of the crank pully It would have been closer to 15-16 psi. That would have been good if i had something to tune this car with.

With the release of the new AEM i might consider shifting it over a lil or swapping for a smaller pully. All i really want is about 8psi.

I have read comments here and there already about how this is stupid of the car is slower now and blah blah blah. I understand haters are gonna hate so whatever. If this ends up making good power when its finished and tunned then great. If it dosen't thats ok to. It did not cost that much and I wanted to do something a lil different. Some Japanese Muscle lol

To those who have supported me, helped with ideas, compliments, etc. Many many thanks.

Thanks for posting this Q&A.

Have you dyno'd the car yet? I think it looks wicked and if you can get it engineered and tuned right it should be lots of fun.

I do however think there is an inherent design flaw in just mounting the supercharger to the injector bases without using any type of plenum. Roots type blowers allow charge reversion as boost rises, and with the chamber that is being filled being so small (I would guess it's not much larger than the cylinder it's filling) you are going to run into tuning problems.

I'm not trying to be rude, just throwing in my $0.02.

V6Phil
07-20-2010, 11:36 PM
Can you explain that a little? Charge reversion??? I have some shots on my phone of the adapter plate ill post up when i get a chance.

So you are saying I would benifit from the plenum being larger? Holding more volume? How so and for what reason?

Just trying to learn :)

Thanks

IDon'tKnow
07-21-2010, 12:21 AM
Dude, I just typed you a research paper on the principal of pressure equalization and when I went to submit it the browser lost it.

This version is going to be shorter.

Charge reversion: When the pressurized air on the hot side of the blower blows back out into ambient air. The rotors are not sealed in a roots type blower. Howevr, twin screw blowers are sealed, thus their being more effecient and cabable of higher boost pressures.

As for the plenum chamber volume: Picture two equal sized chambers, one in vacuum and the other pressurized to 20 psi with a valve between them. If you open the valve you are going to have 10psi ambient in both chambers. If the presurized chamber had twice the volume of the other, you would get 13.2psi ambient when the valve opened.

If your supercharger is only capable of producing 15psi, and your plenum volume is equal to your cylinder volume you won't be able to creat more than 7.5psi of boost.

That's a simplistic explination but I hope you get the idea.

Also, roots type blowers tend to produce quite a bit of heat which decreases the concentration of oxygen in your intake charge.

V6Phil
07-21-2010, 12:36 AM
Yes.....I think I understand. So I need to compare the volume of the cylinders to the volume of the hotside of the charger.

What would the volume of the cylinders be on my motor?

Also for cooling now what would you recomend. I thought the charger sticking out of the hood would help a little hahaha.

Thanks for the input.

IDon'tKnow
07-21-2010, 12:43 AM
Your cylinder is 3200/6 (533cc).

I've put some though into a water to air intercooler intake manifold setup for my own purposes. My idea is to use the set of chopped down injector bases from my scrapped ITB setup and basically just build a large chamber with a heat exchanger sepperating the upper and lower portions of the manifold.

I would expect to pay ~$1k to do design and have it fabricated yourself, and probably twice or three times that if you just show up at a shop and ask for it to be done.

Looks outrageous!

V6Phil
07-21-2010, 07:53 PM
When calculating the volume of the hot side of the charger i take in to account the 6 runners going to the head and the adapter plate for the total????

then i compare it to 533cc?

PS you need to change your name to "IKnow" lol

IDon'tKnow

I have the worst luck with responding to your posts. This is my third attempt. Shorter each time (probably a good thing).

If I were you I would get in touch with a company that does water to air intercoolers (frozen boost, Bell intercoolers, ect.) and have them send you a unit that is only enclosed on four sides and the shoulder of an inch or so on either side of the core; that way you can have your existing flanges welded to sheet alluminum and then sandwich the intercooler between them. It will serve the double benefit of cooling your inake charge (greater density/ higher mass of oxygen per given manifold pressure) and acting as a plenum as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about doing volume calculations. Unless you are going for some huge goal you aren't going to need a particularly large plenum.

I know the video clips prob dont do justice, but is there a real difference in power?

And how do those TL Brembo's feel, it must stop better?

I'd just like to say I love this car! It is pretty much the reason I decided to do the j. I first saw it on the cover of HT and I also noticed the Ont plate mad props! My friend travelled from here in his white ef hatch w a built 98spec type r swap to the honda tech meet in t dot last week and I made sure that he took pictures and he got lots. I did not know about the ssse sc you had on it till now. Love the car man well done!

I think im gonna be the 1st around me to do the Swap. im gonna Sell off my project car and 2 B swaps to pick up a shell and a Jswap to start fresh =-)
