hi im about to do my j swap into my EG hatch and am tring to save as much lettus as i can so i thought since i have a friend thats a very experinced welder/fabricator i could make a custom set of mounts instead of buying hasport mounts. Is there anyone who has any deminsions on them or do you guys think this is a bad idea?? thanks for any input..

Don is one of the people that has made custom mounts, especialy for auto trannys. So I would start searching his threads first.

I'm in the process of making my own custom mounts right now. They aren't anything special - solid mounts actually. I'm starting with the front side (timing side) of the motor and moving to the tranny mount next. I'm having to do custom mounts out of neccesity, not because I'm trying to save money.
If you are having to ask if it's a good idea (and I'm not trying to be rude by saying this) you probably will want to stay away from it. You'll need to travel that path to some extent if you go auto tranny anyway but don't complicate things by trying to do all four of them - pony up the cash and give hasport or innovative their due; by the time you have spent $$$ on materials and all of the time measuring, designing, mocking up, finish welding, painting, ect.... you will have been better off going with the real deal.
