View Full Version : The J Swap is back!!

I had given up on my swap (J32A3 into Integra) because the DBW was just too involved. I put all my J stuff up for sale and then I found a great deal on a J32A2 in my province.
So the swap is back on the table... Now I have a few questions.
Are J alternators similar throughout? Can I use my A3 alternator on the A2?
The A3 TL trans I have with LSD... will it work with the A2 using the TL clutch and flywheel?
The flywheel triggers are the same?
I have a CL-S 6MT harness w/ sub harness and additional ECU plug and CL-S 6MT ECU.
As far as wiring harnesses and plugs, do I need anything else?
Is there a CKP sub harness? Or an additional harness for the front cam sensor? There is no plug on the CL-S harness that I have for the front cam sensor.
I ordered the Hybrid Racing bolt in shifter and I have the A3 trans shifter cables too. I still need to relocate the pin on top of the trans to make it shift right.
I also need some ebay exhaust headers, unless anyone has a sweet set for sale! Are there good aftermarket J32A2 headers?

1. Alt should interchange with no issue.
2. trans will work if your staying with auto ecu and harness other wise you'll need crank trigger for a manual ecu and harness.
3. Only the CL-s has the trigger on the flywheel. If your using the CL-S 6spd ECU then you'll need the triggered flywheel (clutches are the same) as well as the sensor in the clutch housing. You can purchase the CL housing and sensor for around $350 US.
4. The pig-tails from my civic engine harness were used to make the new harness. Some vendors supply thier own. Tim asked me to send mine when I shipped him my CL harness.
5. Looks like a short sub harness from the 6-pin on the harness to the sensors.
Hope this helps

When I still had the A3 w/ trans all bolted up in the car, I hooked up the CL-S harness to everything and when I was done the only left over plugs were on the timing side. Every plug on the harness had a place on the A3's transmission.
Does that mean it already has the trigger?

Can someone post a pic of where this sensor is located?

CRAP.
SO it wasn't enough that I had to change out my motor (J32A3), but now I have to change out my trans?
WTF?
This is what I have:
J32A2 6 SPD
'05 TL 6 SPD trans LSD
'05 TL 6 SPD clutch, flywheel
CL-S 6 SPD ECU
CL-S 6 SPD engine harness
Will I be able to work with all this?
Can I tap in a sensor and just buy the flywheel?

the j32a2 is out of the tl or cl type s
if it came out of a cl type s youll need the cl type s tranny if it came out of a tl im not really sure if your 05 tl tranny but you can deff use the accord tranny.
my suggestion is even tho you havent had the greatest experience with don over rpm system but give him a call and he'll answer all your questions he doesnt really answer pms or post but he'll be more then glad to help you over the phone if you give him a call i know his products work i have'em in my integra 4dr and my car runs like a champ.it was my fault the reason my car broke down at the track

You'll need the triggered flywheel (clutches are the same) as well as the sensor in the clutch housing. You can purchase the CL housing and sensor for around $350 US.
The housings will interchange.
All this, only if your using the CL-S 6SPD ECU and harness.

So I could buy the housing, sensor and flywheel and it will absolutely 100% be compatible with the TL trans I already have?
I have the CL-S harness and ECU. I have both already. I think there are some other plugs that are not part of the CL-S harness though. Like the front cam sensor, and this flywheel trigger, are they on separate sub harnesses?
Please point out anything that doesn't look right, or if I'm wrong about the ECU/harness.

This is what I was planning to work with once I have it all buttoned up. This is my OBDII Integra ECU socket. I will be able to make all my connections here as well as connect my diagnostic port.

ok so i need some help please and before you tell me to go search i want to let the responding informant know that i have tried and gotten numberous places none of which are either consistent or informative to my swap... im new and i know this so please dont remind me! i have a j32a2 from an 02 tl types and a 06 accord six speed transmission to go in my 98 ek so far.... do i need an ecu from a tl type s from the same year series (regular dizzy instead of electronic distribution) and i believe that 97-02 correct? and can i keep the harness that came with my j32a2(auto tranny motor).... i was planning on mailing my ecu's to api and let them take care of the hard work but my budget is not limitless like some fortunate people are.... mounts and axles can come from either api or hasport and thats understood... i really need help with this electrical stuff please... i hear so much stuff from one to the other... ive been told to just buy an odyssey ecu for the upgraded maps for the motor(bigger torque curve) i really dont know this stuff... so with my 02 tl type s - should i run the same ecu/harness as the motor since the motor was mated with the automatic then ship the stuff to api?
as far as clutch flywheel.... what needs to be done there? could i get a clutch kit and call it a day? what about the flywheel? any conversion from auto motor to accord six speed... i know the tranny will bolt right up and the cluth shouldnt have any problems right? could i just get a factory flywheel and have a machine shop shave off some weight to lighten it up a tad? please help... im new and in need of some light to be shed on my confusion please... thank you in advance for helpful and insightful advice and help

ok now as far as these j swaps go ive heard many different stories... and was hoping someone could shed some lights on this for the new guy... yes im new and i might be inclined to ask questions that have been asked many times before but i have found a good answer yet... i have a j32a2 out of a 2002 tl type s with a 06 accord six speed... the engine has its original wire harness (automatic)... what ecu can i run with this or ship to api to get them to wire it up for me? the automatic j32a2 with my five speed 98 ek ecu? and do i need the triggered flywheel because im running a types s motor also or is that only for the cl type s transmission 03-up? i know they have the electronic distribution and i have a regular dizzy.... thank you for you help in advance and yes ive searched many forums and dont understand most of what these intelligent people have to say... so i still would like some plain english input.. thank you
