View Full Version : J32A2 sizes

Hi all. I'm building a car, sort of like a kit car, but making my own kit. I'm considering the J32A2 w/the 6spd. A quick browse shows that many are using the 03 Accord 6spd. I assume this is because of availability issues with the CL Type S 6spd (ie nobody ever bought them).
Anyway, I'm trying to design the frame and chassis, but I need measurements from the engine+trans. Does anyone have height, width, length for the engine and trans? Weight? TIA

bump.
No one has the sizes? Seems like they would be kind of necessary

If we were building a kit car then yes we would have these numbers you are looking for. I assume you are looking for general lengths (overall), not from any particular point on the engine/trans assy. What is your time/frame? I will be pulling my engine/trans in the next few months for an upgrade and would be able to get these measurments at that time. Or do you think inside the engine bay would be good enough? LMK if I can help.

My time frame in terms of building is a ways away, but I'm trying to decide on a drive train, from which I have to design around. Designing takes quite a bit of time.
I need overall width (front to back), length (side to side), and height. If you can get those from inside the engine bay with reasonable accuracy (within 1" or so), that would work, thank you. Might be easiest to measure from fixed pts, like ground to oil pan, ground to top of engine.
I also need weights of the drivetrain (engine, trans, axles, diff) but I know not too many people have the means to do that. Do you know if there are weight estimates floating around I just haven't found yet?
I've never swapped different engines into an existing car, I'm a little surprised no one checks dimensions to see how it would fit. Only the first guy to do the swap needs to check I guess.
Thx

I will see what I can come up with as far as demensions go. Trying to remember how high my bathroom scale reads.
I do know for a fact that the J is smaller front to back than a B18 with stock Intake and exhaust manifold. about 2 inches wider (side to side) and roughly 5 inches taller depending on Intake manifold. I know this may not help much but might give you an idea.

about 2 weeks ago I had my whole swap shipped to rpm system shop and the shipment invoice was 745 lbs and it was a whole 2003 cl type s swap

Sometime next week I might be able to give you some of those numbers you looking for since my engine bay is clean everything is tucked even the break lines are tucked it should be easy to get the numbers you looking for

Thanks, I appreciate it. The K24A drivetrain is 400lbs, so I can't imagine the j32a drive train being that heavy. Maybe that included the pallet (or you got overcharged?).
I hope this turns out to be workable because I want some torque, but if it comes with a bunch of extra weight and size it won't be worth it.

I think you going to be alot closer to the 450-475 range with the "J"

was that with an engine cradle on it? cuz i would think it would weigh a good bit less than 745. the trans is pretty light granted the clutch and flywheel are like 40lbs the engine is pretty heavy to me but i couldnt imagine it being much over 3 or 400 lbs

It was a whole complete change over it was a 2003 cl type s swap motor tranny wire harness ecu ignition switch with anti theft system axels shifter cables shifter box and all the plastics. And no I didn't get over charged I only paid 199 dollars to get it shipped to rpm system

As far as necessary points, if you simply used a jig based on an EG, you would have many motor options. depending if it were a FWD or RWD setup, ou may be limited to motors.

I'll be building the frame around the engine, so locating it isn't an issue. Knowing if and how it will fit is. IOW, if it's too tall it raises the center of gravity and potentially obscures rearward view. If it's too wide (front to back) it puts too much weight too far back and becomes a tailhappy handful, and lengthens the rear end. I'd have to find another engine.
1sicktl, thanks for listing everything that was weighed.
