I have the J32A3 from the 05 TL with the Cast-In exhaust manifold. Anyone know of options for headers? I was thinking of having some custom ones made, but I think it would be upwards of $1000 to the CAT. I want it to be 3 inches right off the head.
I checked out some factory manifolds, but there's a CAT built into each one. It's very restrictive and very expensive. Sure it would bolt right up, but I would still have factory exhaust and I would end up changing them later anyways.
SUGGESTIONS?

The only thing that I can think of, off of the top of my head, would be to visualize a "subaru wrx style" turbo downpipe. It would be similar in reference. You could either buy or make a flange to bolt onto it and then just have an exhaust shop do the rest of the piping.
If you get the flanges, then I couldn't imagine it costing any more than $400 to have an exhaust shop weld it up.

I think it might be cheaper to replace the heads. Not sure if the t-belt and sensors wil interchange, but you can get heads cheap.
I have seen a few pics of the kind of header your looking for. They looked like cheap mild steel with crappy welds. A custom y-pipe from the heads to the cat, $1000 sounds about right. 3" stainless, mandrel, would be a cool look. I am just not sold on the whole single outlet (as far as flow goes). Honda reached thier emissions goal with this design (quick heating converter). I would be curious to see some flow numbers. Granted, just about all the new j motors out are using this setup, so they are obviously getting the power they are looking for. Hell, they might just flow more than the old design. Good luck with you your build, keep us posted on what you find.

I'm going to keep looking for options. A friend of mine might be machining a few flanges for me out of stainless. I'll give him the exhaust gaskets as templates and go from there. Another friend used to bend and weld railings and steam tubing. So he may have a friend there who can bend and weld some 3" stainless.
I do not want to use the head CATS. I have a 2.5" CAT to use under the shifter area and that's it. So I'l have to look into my EM and make sure I can get away with it. My motor uses 4 O2's from the factory. Crap.
