View Full Version : still no affordable clutch alternatives

I am a bit surprised that the J swap has been becoming more popular the past couple years and that an affordable clutch/flywheel option has not come out yet.

I know the question of using K/B series clutch/flywheels has about been exhausted on this site, but that does seem like the most cost effective way.

It would seem to me that if someone could manufacture a custom flywheel to utilize a K/B clutch/pp and retain the outer teeth location for the oem starter that it would be a great success.

Does anyone have any findings, insight or input they want to share?
Just weighing the options as the CM/tilton setup is far too expensive for me to justify, and the oem/p2r/spec seem to be a hit or miss.

I believe wr will see in the future, I could be wrong, a adaptor plate like J2B, and or J2H. That would solve the transmission rarity and clutch cost. Just my oppinion though.

If I remember correctly J series rotates opposite from B/H

Probably a J to K if anything. But the reality is the K trans may go kaboom from the torque. They really are a lot smaller and have a lot less mass.

The other setup is J to F20 (S2K) trans.

Time will tell. Maybe Don will be playing around with these options.

Not sure how a J2F20 adaptor would help the FWD guys but it brings about its own set of problems

turbo Sir is correct about the rotation. B/H transmissions wouldn't work (easily)

Seems like the K24 flywheel/clutch is the answer it just needs to be researched by someone that wants to make a kit to make the minor adjustments that make it work.

some already have gone with flywheel+disc+PP from a K series , keeping the J trans ...

Like said above , i realy dont think the K trans would stand that much torque. J trans internal are MASSIVE compared to k

I agree, if it were me I would keep the J-transmission and fit a K clutch/flywheel setup on it

If anyone has a J series flywheel laying around that they can measure I can throw up the measurements for the K20 flywheel later on when im at home.

Just measure the OD and count the teeth. Then measure the distance from the clutch surface to the crank mating surface.

K series have dog boxes available. That would be a plus about a J2K

Ha I didnt even think about the reverse rotation, I knew that, just forgot.

^ problem with all this is the k series starter comes from the engine side towards the tranny the j series's is posit with the starter on the tranny side so mounting that up would be a problem and defeat the purpose of being cost effective with the k series trans going for only a couple hundred less.
