I have the 2001 3.2L ULEV engine. My question is I want to get the type s cams but I'm not sure what model to get them from. I can get them from acura but if I can find them in a honda vehical it would be even better. Our car club has a discount with the locale honda dealership. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Is your engine a J32A1 or J32A2?

I'm not quite sure what people recommend for your motor but '07 TL-S cams are what the accord guys use in theirs...

Part #'s
14100-RDB-A00 FRONT
14200-RDB-AOO REAR

It costs about $300 for both of them.

Do the cams interchange between heads??

Also Check your local Salvage yard that might parting out an engine.
might be able to pick up both heads assy. for a little more and have extra goodies

I have the J32A1. It had 148000 miles on it and been completely rebuilt. The heads look new and there was cross hatching from a hone in the cylinders. I bought shipped for $220.

First off, your engine has a very small primary or secondary smaller lobe on them{can't remember which one, but one is WAY smaller to create turbulance in the CC kinda like the K24 CRV engines}. You have several options as far as cams, The J32A2 cams have a much larger set of primary and secondary lobes to allow more air into the cylinder. And like the above post, I think you can use all the way up to the 07 cams, and i'm in the process of getting info on the 09 TL cams now....May be cheaper to just get a J32A2 or J35 engine rather than buying the parts needed to swap the cams.

Yes but i believe you need to use RL pistons to clear the j32a2 valves. I am about to put up some hybrid motor build info.

Yes you do, the CL-S heads have 36 mm valves instead of 32 mm valves like the Ody and base model J engines.

I believe you can also use the CLS pistons, no?

i know we off the topic , ok like the j32a2 has 260 hp and the mdx block witch is the j35a3 has only 240hp wouldnt lose hp??? still a newbie lol thnx

The increase in HP is coming from the larger ports, bigger vales and higher RPM of the CL-S.

Actually its because of the Higher compression pistons in it.

i will post the website later but for now... the best oem combo ive seen for j series motors are 06+ mdx crankshaft and rods (96mm stroke) and either 05+RL/07+TL pistons and cams to give you the 11:1 compression... when i get everything put back together i will post some dyno numbers

Ive heard of a few guys eclipsing 350whp with a hybrid j35/32 swap.... My main concern as I've heard is p2v clearance.... But thats nothing a great machine shop couldn't easily fix!!!

Didn't seem like the question was answered, and I don't think I have read it anywhere, is there a cam upgrade option for the J35a3 from the MDX?

If that's the 01-02 motor then..yes ...the j32a2 cams and header or upgrades...only thing is the piston is moding for the bigger valves...but the cams should be direct fit

J32A2 cams.

I run those on my current set up. Picked up a set brand new for cheap on V6P, and have ran those cams ever since I had the J30/J35 set up.
