I posted the following email on hondaclub.com but I didn't get any feedback. So today, April 30, 2011, I jointed the j32a.com websited to get help getting started.

I'm a newbie...I just blew my 2005 Honda Accord engine, it a V6 coupe.
I forgot to change the timing belt and it broken around 116,000 miles. One of the cylinder has no pressure, so I just got the shop to replace the damaged engine and i figure i would take this j series engine home and rebuild it. I'm mechanically inclined so i know i can do it.

Little background:
I haven't rebuilts or worked on a vehicle with the exception of maintance since college. I'm a mechanical engineer. The only vehicle i've rebult was the shift drum, and shift forks of a Kawaski Zephyr. To get to the point, I know how to use tools, follow instructions, willing to learn, and I will purchase what I need to pick up this new hobbie which will be followed by a project car.

Objective: I want to rebuild the engine. I need resources and information on rebuilding a J series engine. Does it make sense to just buy a honda service manual and go forward. I figure since I have the engine out I matter as well look into increasing the performance of the engine if kits are available. I'm open to turbos, super charges, intake mods, whatever. I need resources. If this where I chevy or ford the mods choices are endless.

What I need:
Right now, i would lile you all's help and advice reguarding the rebuidling of my j series engine. Question: Keep it stock or modify to get more performace? Where do I start? Service manuals or recommended sites to get information on j series rebuilds. (I haven't found any sities to provide instruction...until today www.j32.com) If there is a mod kit that i could purchase to get more performance out of the engine that would be great start. My requirement is that I am able to pass emissions and fuel economy if possible.

What am I not looking to do? I am not looking to modify engine mounts or the body of the vehicle. I only want to make changes to the engine, intake, or exhaust. i would consider a turbo if there is a kit available and the price is right. Like I said, reference materials, websites, and part providers would be helpful. I want to layout the plan before I start making purchase. If all's possible a one stop shop would be great. If I could increase the performance while not digging a big hole in my pocket that would be great. I on the other hand have time to do it right! Help me out you all. By the way. 3turbosxtyper posted a very motivatiing article posted back in 2009 that inspired me to join hondaclub.com.

Plan after rebuilding engine:
Option 1. Purchase a late mode 4 door honda accord that need's a new engine, install the engine (hopefully modified for better performance) and sell my 2 door honda accord. At this time, I have a toddler and an infant on the way so I need rear passenger seating and truck space. The coupe is not going to cut it. My wife has a 2007 honda odessey but i need something bigger myself.
Option 2. Sell the rebuld to spec engine. Puchase another family sized vehicle as a project vehicle (car or truck)> I would defintely pick a project vehicle that has parts readily availability while keeping my relaible coupe as my commute car. Use the for vacations or infrequent driving. Either way the next vehicle I get has to be large, easy to repair, reliable, and will be driven more than likely on the weekend only but it has to be full size. I'm havent decided on what i want exactly.
