OK guys, first off, I have done my research and have gotten a lot of answers both ways. I have a JDM front sedan, just got a hood for it, of course VIS CF. I would prefer not to cut it (but I will if I have too). Here is a thread that I am referencing too. Andyjt's '01 J32 R (http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2689747) He has gotten his to close by shimming I guess his mounts, sub-frame, and sourced a longer steering knuckle adapter (don't know from what or where) and also installed a 2009 TL AWD 3.7 Manifold.

He states this what he did:
"I ended up swapping to the shorter manifold, cut nearly all of the hood webbing in the way. I spaced the engine/ subframe down 1.5in. I also used a longer steering gear flexible joint. So far no problems/ no hitting the hood under WOT. And i still have enough ground clearance( i dont have it slammed), I have it raised just so it fills the wheelwells."

You guys think this is worth a shot? I just hate to cut up a good VIS CF hood and want the sleeper look without having the motor hanging out of the hood, but either way I'm doing the swap, figured it is just worth a shot to get it all under the hood and still have decent ground clearance.

In my opinion, "shimming" the subframe 1.5" is a long way to shim. That will put a ton more stress on those bolts.

But its hard to say without seeing what he did.

thats what I thought but he has been completely inactive on the net for almost 2 years, so i can't get any pictures of how he did it, and the steering knuckle baffles me to...

I have no problem cutting it, I just want the sleeper look honestly, don't want every Joe Ricer to try to race me cause my motor sticks up outta my hood. haha

might just run it with the hood off for a little to see if I can find some way around it

my hood closes just fine, but im running a j30a1 engine, not quite as tall

aaaaand iv seen a few guys cutting the intake to make it not so tall as well on the j32's

or just put a j30a1 intake on your motor, have to cut ribs out of your hood but it will close (i dont think it will fit newer motors though)

i have mine with a cut hole and motor sticking out. People love it. I kinda love the feeling of looking out my windshield and seeing my motor sticking out of the hood.

Cut holes for j series FTW!

Shimming is the only way to go. Custom manifold would be the best. Either way the oil pan will be still low. There people talking about 5 inch clearance from oil pan with a drop. I called bull shit cause the v6 is a big motor.

i got my hood to clear on my ek by using a tl manifold(not sure on year) and machining the bottom mounting face down so it sits closer to the valve covers. i think we took .120 off the surface. i relocated the throttle body also so that the map sensor would not stick up. maybe something like this would work.

Good info! I believe there is one of those intakes on ebay for pretty cheap (compared to the TL-SHAWD).

That manifold is from a J32A3.... Was looking into it also as a cheap alternative to get the hood to close with the version 2 Hasport mounts.

why not just relocate the map sensor? you can use the map off of a 92 civic and run vacuum lines. good info tho i am going to have to do this to get the hood to close on my teg how much did you take off the bottom?

What car, mounts, and what kind of ground clearance do you have and on what kind of ride height?

What car, mounts, and what kind of ground clearance do you have and on what kind of ride height?

-Car: 98 Civic Coupe
-Mounts: EKj2 "set at the highest setting"
-Ground clearance: 6.5 "inches by transmission, 5.5" by oil pan
-Wheels: 17"
-Suspension: Full coil overs set at 2.5" in drop

i have the full plastic intake manifold cover installed. Still lots of room still.
