View Full Version : Which engine swap is the best for HP and torque?

I'm looking to get as much HP safely out of an engine swap for a 6GA, I'm looking for at least 500hp. So I am wondering which engine swap I should do. The choices are J32, J35, J36 and J37. I believe those all fit straight into an accord, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm planning to do an turbo on the engine too with around 20psi of boost or more if it's safe and I won't have to be worried about an exploding engine.
Can someone please clarify which engines will go into a 6th Gen Accord? (i.e. J35a4, j37a1, j32a2)
I read something about all the engines I listed having forged parts is this true?
If not which parts should I have forged?
Which turbo should I go with? (i.e GT35R)
Any recomendations of transmissions? (Aftermarket are okay also)

there is no straight engine that will give you the best unless you make a mutt. the combo that i have done as well as seen is :
j35a4 bottom
j32a2 heads
j32a2 cl type-s cams
j35a4 intake / port matched
75 mm of a NSX
shave the j32a2 heads down .300 of a inch . use a two ply comedic head gasket . ARP head studs . it will bring up the compression in the engine to 10.2 / 1 . putting you in the 300's with some tuning .
stay with the same type of setup and get the sleeves done because the stock block will only hold about 12.5 lbs .

Any benefit of having custom forged rods and pistons?
Do you happen to know where I can get pieces of an engine or is the easiest way to just buy a whole J32a2 and j35a4 engines?

The benefit of having forged rods and pistons is they are stronger. The rods will not bend as easy and the pistons will not melt as quickly. And i believe they are lighter.
You wont be able to run 20psi (safely) without sleeveing the block, assuming you have the correct turbo. I know with the j32a3 motor J&R is making near 480's on a stock motor and around 12 psi of boost tuned on a aem fic.

Do you know where I can check out the setup J&R is doing?
Also, do you have a ballpark figure on how much forged pistons and rods along with sleeving the block will cost me?

that is there kit. They are all over the TL forum, and some other v6 forums. As far as price goes. There is not too many off the shelf options for forged pistons and rods, therefore the price is a bit high. When i was looking pistons and rods were around $1000 for the set of each. And from when i had other motors sleeved, depending on what sleeves, you can usally get them for about $100 each, then about another $100 in machine work for the install.

That turbo kit seems overpriced. I think it'd be cheaper to have a custom one made with standard piping. I was wondering about which turbo turbine would be good for a 20psi boost.
Aren't all the engines but the J30 have forged parts?
Would it even be worth it to spend the money or will the stock forged parts be just as good if I had them made?
Would it be possible to get a J35a4 engine sleeved for j32a2 pistons? Just a thought I had because the thicker walls could take one hell of a boost if it's possible.

I havnt looked into all the engine combinations, but you gotta understand a TL is not a $4k honda. All of the performance parts for a 20k-30k car are going to cost a little more.

Yeah I know. I'm asking about a setup for a 6th Gen Accord though.

What exactly is you question???
You wanted someone to tell you what combination was good.. they sayid it.. Are you on V6P?? all your accord questions should be there.. pistons, rods, everything.. Go there and try looking around if not look for Paul on there...

I've been trying to get a good answer from the 6thgenaccord forum but no luck. And it seems V6P has the same crowd bassically. I came to ask here because there is better knowledge on this forum from what I've seen.

It's not a matter of searching it has to do with finding the right person with the right knowledge and experience. I've done my searching believe me.

If you've done searching, then why are you still wanting to be spoon fed????

I heard some of the earlier j35a4's have forged rods and are visibly different. I think I read there is a seam down the middle.
